Russian Language at School is the oldest Russian scientific and methodological journal published since 1914:
- from 1914 to 1927 under the title Native Language at School;
- from 1928 to 1928 under the title Native Language and Literature in a Labour School;
- from 1929 to 1931 under the title Russian Language at a Soviet School;
- from 1932 to 1932 under the title Literature and Language at a Polytechnic School;
- from 1934 to 1935 under the title Russian Language and Literature at Secondary School.
Since 1936, the Journal has been published under the name Russian Language at School. The Journal is registered with the ISSN Centre: ISSN 0131-6141 (Print), ISSN: 2619-0966 (Online).
During World War II, the Journal was not published.
During over 100 years of its existence, the Journal has accumulated a large amount of information on the history and current state of the Russian language, its grammar, vocabulary, phraseology, stylistics and spelling. Among the authors have been distinguished scholars, who made a significant contribution to the development of Russian linguistics and methods of teaching the Russian language, such as A. M. Peshkovsky, L. V. Shcherba, D. N. Ushakov, V. V. Vinogradov, G. O. Vinokur, R. I. Avanesov, N. M. Shansky, K. B. Barkhin, V. A. Dobromyslov, M. A. Rybnikova, A. V. Tekuchev, L. Yu. Maksimov, M. T. Baranov and others. Over the years, the Journal has systematically covered new concepts of textbooks for schools and universities, discussions about the reform of spelling, about new approaches to teaching the Russian language.
