Abstract

Studying semantic processes in word families is relevant. Such research is essential for both word formation and lexicology since these transformations lead to a change in the quantitative and qualitative composition of the family (up to its disintegration), as well as to the emergence of new lexical units. The article aims to consider the processes of semantic decorrelation in the word family with the base -lag-/-lozh-. Research methods included synchronicdiachronic analysis, structural-semantic analysis of the word, inductive method consisting in the examination of case studies, analysis of verb families, and quantitative evaluation of the obtained data. The article considers the main causes of the semantic dissimilation in the word family with the root -lag-/-lozh- and the emergence of new meanings. The article concludes that the semantic dissimilation of the allophones -lag- and -lozh- is ongoing. In detail, verbs with the allomorph -lag- lose their connection with the original spatial meaning and form new, abstract meanings. The research reveals that the aspectual correlation of verbs with the allomorphs -lag- and -lozh- was largely destroyed, which led to the emergence of suppletive aspectual pairs with the roots -lozh-/-klad-.
